UAIC Research Group on Gender Equality in Science is a multidisciplinary research team set up within the frame of the STAGES project in order to conduct scientific studies and evaluations on Gender Equal Opportunities in Romanian educational and research institutions, particularly at the UAIC (see the main objectives, research group members, research and publications).
Since 2013, "Gender Equality in Science" is a theme for PhD studies at the UAIC. Prof. dr. Doina Balahur, scientific coordinator for PhD in Sociology, announced the topics and the bibliography for 2014 candidates competition. As for 2013, the research will be carried out in cooperation with the FP7 European project STAGES at the UAIC. (more info here).
The internal communication gets support of different media like UAIC intranet, the website of the University, the website of CSMDC and the new website that was built within the frame of UAIC STAGES Project.

Main Communication support. Website building: designing the structure, the information content and the graphic presentation for the website of the STAGES Project at UAIC (stages.csmcd.ro)
The website of the STAGES project at the UAIC is conceived as an informative medium for a better communication as well as for an extensive dissemination made both internally – for the members of UAIC Network of Women in Academics and Research - and externally – for our project partners and any other interested reader, from Romania and abroad. At the same time, it is a useful support for increasing the public visibility of the scientific results and professional career of women in academia and research involved in the project activities. The website of UAIC-STAGES project contains so far over 250 informative articles (news, interviews, presentations, documents etc.) and around 1000 photos, and has until now over 9700 visitors
Public Communication through organizing public events: "Women researchers Day. Celebration of the UAIC women in science" (2 editions, 2013 and 2014)
Inaugurated in 2013 (first edition), continued in 2014 (second edition) and also planned for 2015 (third edition), the public event “Women researchers Day. Celebration of the UAIC women in science”, has become a recent tradition at the UAIC. A key moment in this event is the ceremony of awarding senior and young women researchers with “UAIC’s excellence in science” awards and distinctions. As a form of public communication, this event involved the direct participation of more than 250 people so far and has been largely disseminated through TV reports and media mentions.
Public Communication through organising a Documentary Exhibition. “UAIC – A Place of Women in Science” (23 June-11 July 2014)
The exhibition reflected, like a public mirror, the activities and events held at the UAIC on the last 36 months under the aegis of the European Project STAGES in order to promote gender equality in science. The themes of the 24 panels that gather more than 250 documents and photos are correlated with the main objectives of the UAIC-STAGES Action Plan and illustrate the setting up of new institutional structures and practices, the organizing of public events and scientific workshops, training sessions and many other activities aiming to make more visible the scientific achievements and social responsibilities of the women academics and researchers from the UAIC. The varnishing event has been attended by more than 50 professors and researchers, managers and administrative staff, PhD students and post-doctoral fellows. The exhibition was open within the interval 23 June-11 July 2014 and had around 2000 visitors. As a main form of public communication, the event has been presented at large on the UAIC-STAGES website, with detailed info and about 100 photos (on stages.csmcd.ro/index.php/documentaryexhibitionuaic), and was also reflected in TV reports, mass-media articles, online information and through social-media channels.(stages.csmcd.ro/index.php/timeline_page9). At the international level, news on the event have been published on the website of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS) at www.epws.net/2014/07/uaic-place-for-women-in-science.html, the website of GenPort (Gender Portal project) at www.genderportal.eu/events/place-women-science-documentary-exhibition, and in the Newsletter of EPWS (Issue 36, October 2014. pp.11-12).
Public Communication through production of documentary films. The series "The UAIC Profiles of Women in Science” (2 editions, 2013 and 2014)
The documentary films within the series “UAIC Profiles of Women in Science” are integrated in a PR campaign for promoting the outstanding achievements and the role models for young generation of the women scientists from the UAIC. The protagonists of these films are senior women researchers (from Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geography-Geology) and teams they are leading who have internationally recognized results in their scientific careers. The first documentary film was produced in 2013 in cooperation with TVR Iasi, and had a significant public success. Besides that it can be currently watched on the UAIC-STAGES website (stages.csmcd.ro), it was also posted on You Tube and had 600 views so far, and also on the website of the Faculty of Physics. The second documentary film has been produced on the March 2014, lasting 35 minutes and has also been posted on You Tube (www.youtube.com), already having more than 400 views.
Documentary communication: the Compendium "UAIC Profiles of Women in Science" (Open sources database)
Conceived as an open source database, the Compendium of women researchers at the UAIC, entitled “UAIC Profiles of Women in Science” constitutes a form of documentary communication that offer public information about women scientists who are recognized through their outstanding achievements in their scientific communities and are role models for young researchers as well as about the young women researchers who have promising results in their career development and need an increasing visibility. The number of the profiles for both the sections continuously increased, so that now 18 women are presented in the first section (stages.csmcd.ro/index.php/womenprofiles), and other 16 in the second one (stages.csmcd.ro/index.php/youngcareer).
Social Communication on the STAGES Project at the UAIC. Presentations in TV talk-shows, TV interviews, TV reports, articles in mass-media and social media.
Based on a productive partnership with TVR Iasi (The National Broadcasting Company, regional branch for Moldova), the actions carried out within the UAIC-STAGES project benefit of large mass communication channels. The TVR Iasi has a regional and national audience as well as an international one (through TVR 3 international programme). Since 2012, 4 TV reports on public event organized at the UAIC, 2 talk-shows/round tables with professors from UAIC, 4 interviews and several info-news concerning the UAIC activities on gender equality in science have been presented.
Reporting Communication: the UAIC-STAGES team’s activity has been reported in 10 Deliverables presented to EC DG Research and Innovation (2012-2014)
The 10 deliverables submitted so far to the EC DG Research and Innovation, Direction Science in Society, according to the Grant Agreement of the project, presented the main actions carried out by the UAIC-STAGES team during the lifespan of the project and their relevant results. The materials totalize almost 1000 pages and will be used, by the end of the project, for editing a book on structural change to promote gender equality in science at the UAIC.
Scientific communication: UAIC’s participation at the European Conferences and other international meetings on Gender Equality in Science (Vilnius, 2013; Bruxelles, 2014; Vienna, 2014; Rome, 2014).
Within the communication strategy, a special component is the international connection with Women Scientists Networks and Associations from the European Union and wide world. In this respect the participation at prestigious scientific events on Gender equality in science like different European conferences and workshops and, especially, the communications presented at such international meetings, made known the activity of the UAIC-STAGES project. Among the European scientific events where the representative of the UAIC has sustained communications are several conferences and workshops that took place at Vilnius 2013, Brussels 2014, Paris 2014,Vienna 2014.
Communication networking: Disseminating news about the UAIC-STAGES activities on prestigious European Networks websites (European Platform of Women Scientists, GenPort, EWRD/ CNRS France)
For the international communication it is worthy to mention that news on the events and actions held at the UAIC have been published on the website of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS) at www.epws.net/2014/07/uaic-place-for-women-in-science.html, the website of GenPort (Gender Portal project), which published news on UAIC_STAGES project several times (for example at www.genderportal.eu/events/place-women-science-documentary-exhibition), and in the Newsletter of EPWS (Issue 36, October 2014. pp.11-12).
Collaborative Communication: Writing articles on the UAIC-STAGES activity in the STAGES Consortium’s Newsletter (2012-2014)
